JUNE 2005 |

Association Update At a special meeting on May 7, 2005, the Board of Directors voted to withdraw our petition to the City of El Paso to close Lake Park. Suzie Hunter represented our interest at a meeting two days earlier with the head of the Department of Traffic and Engineering. It was made quite clear that all of the various departments would deny our petition. The main reason given was traffic safety. They are aware of the increasing traffic and want to maintain two exits for Tennis West residents. Every reason that Suzie presented was met with a rejection. We were given two options: one was to withdraw our petition, have our fees refunded, and have the opportunity to petition again at any time; the other was to go down in defeat, loose our fees, and wait one year before we could start the process again. The choices were not great. We decided to wait for the results of the election on June 4th and then reconsider our options. When we do petition again, our best plan to succeed is to have at least thirty residents at any meeting concerning this issue. ******************************** Lakes & Other News One of the pumps in the lower lake broke down and was pronounced beyond repair. Another pump has been ordered and will be installed very soon. The mosquito season is upon us. Please call Vector Control if you see many of the odious creatures in our community. The number is 594-1568. Hopefully the Street Department has properly repaired the sinkhole in front of 5220 Lakeway. They continue to believe that the streets are privately owned and not the city's responsibility. How does this fit with not being able to close Lake Park? There are many city employees who do not know that Tennis West was annexed into the city (including the streets) in 1984. One of the suggested approaches to having our streets repaved is to present the city with a demand to return our taxes for twenty-one years and we will maintain the streets ourselves. That might get the attention of the powers that be!

The approved trees are Mondale pine, Live oak, crab apple, crape myrtle, Bradford pear, Arizona ash, and Modesto ash. Of course, trees planted in private yards may be more varied. The Board requests that residents DO NOT dump lawn debris into the common areas or the lakes. It causes problems for lake and lawn maintenance. ************************************* Picnic The neighborhood picnic in April was very successful. Between fifty and sixty residents shared good food and conversation. the exciting news at the picnic (as you know by now) is that Jaxon's has opened a restaurant in the clubhouse. It is open to the public and all residents. Club membership is not required. The restaurant offers a slightly reduced menu and carry-out is available. It is very handy to have this option available to us. I recommend dining on the patio. The view is awesome! ************************************* Activity in Tennis West has increased as the pool is open and swim teams are practicing daily. Please watch for more foot traffic and drive carefully.
Have a great summer.
